Ipswich Junior Open 2018

Date: December 21st 2017

The Ipswich Junior Open 2018 will take place from Friday Feb 2 through Sunday Feb 4. This is one of only 7 Silver events sanctioned each year by England Squash and is arguably the most popular. Last year's event was the biggest Junior event in the UK with almost 250 entrants in age group from U13 to U19. So popular was the event last year that each competition had to be limited to 32 entrants and some events had almost 20 hopefuls on their waiting list. Silver events attract big ranking points and are obligatory for anyone hoping to represent England so the best juniors in the country will be here and the squash will be of the very highest standard.
Organising an event on this scale is a major undertaking. Matches will be hosted at the Sports Club and Martlesham Leisure from 5pm on the Friday, with a very full day on Saturday and hopefully ending around 6pm on Sunday - around 500 matches in all. Emily Ison will lead the Tournament Desk at Ipswich, Karen Turmel will lead at Martlesham, Ali Livingstone is Tournament Director and a workforce of around 10 at each venue will ensure the whole event goes smoothly. This year the event will showcase the new tournament software being jointly marketed by England Squash and US Squash - only its second outing and the first time it will have been used by 'real' people. There won't be any courts available for members' use throughout the weekend, but it will be a great opportunity to try and spot the stars of the future. Entry to the event is limited to England Squash members and has to be done through the England Squash website. Entries close on Jan 12.
