Successful Worlds for Lucy

Date: July 23rd 2018

Lucy Turmel returns from the World Junior Championships in Chennai, India, having successfully reached the semi finals of the Championships. Although she lost 3-1 in the semi to Hania el Hammamy, currently ranked 20 in the world, Lucy can be proud of her achievement being the only player to break the domination of the Egyptians who filled all the other semi slots in the Women's event and all the semi slots in the Men's event!

Lucy's QF, watched by mentor Lura Massaro and coach Lee Drew

Along the way Lucy had good wins against international competition, including Sneha Sivakumar from Indonesia who had seen off a number of seeds including England's Elise Lazarus, and Jessica Keng from the US.

The World Junior Championships have always been a good guide to the players who will dominate the game as senior players, so here are the Egyptians to watch out for in the next 5 years - Women: Rowan Reda Araby and Hania el Hammamy - Men: Marwan Tarek and Mostafa Asal. You read it here first!
