US Open Adventure for Club Juniors

Date: December 24th 2017

The Club's juniors have been getting around, with Tate and Nero Harms playing in the US Junior Open held over four venues at Yale university, Wesleyan, Trinity and Loomis. This was a massive event, with many draws over the 100 mark, reflecting the massive improvement in the standard of US junior squash in recent years, largely with the benefit of many expat UK coaches. Indeed the Harms boys took full advantage of that, training for two days with Arthur Gaskin at his new club in Rhode Island .

Tate was competing at U15 and won his first three matches against US and Egyptian opposition. Having made the last 16 he suffered his first defeat, but that was still good enough to see him finish 12th of the 128 strong field - a fine achievement.

After getting to the quarter finals in the Swiss junior Open in early December Nero competed in the U13 category of the US Open but unfortunately lost 2-3 in the second round to Japan’s number 1 ending up 35-36th place out of a 128 draw.
