2013 Handicap Tournament

Richard Wingfield won the 2013 10min Handicap event played on Jan 26, defeating Will Windermere 33-25 in the 10 minute Final. Although a tournament of 10min games sounds easy,
Will and Richard
by the time the final was played Richard and WIll had played 6 times. Richard had a fairly easy run through his pool matches as the handicapping in general did none of the top players any favours. In his semi he defeated Nigel Griffiths who went out at the same
stage last year. Will had come through the same pool as Richard; in fact he beat him 29-18 in the pool match before winning his semi 32-27 against a fast tiring Ed Bull.

Inter-County Championship - 2012

In 2012, for the first time, Suffolk took part in the Championship based on the growing band of players at Ipswich Sports Club. And it was only appropriate that Ipswich should host the first round Div 1 match over the weekend of Sept 22/23 when the visitors were Surrey, Kent and Norfolk.

For their first encounter, the Suffolk side could have been excused some trepidation facing an established side such as Surrey, and although they went down 4-1 there were enough close 3-2 matches that would have seen Suffolk win if they had gone the other way. Denis Groualle was the only Suffolk winner, with Ali Livingstone and Adrian Meredith losing their matches 11-8 and 11-9 in the fifth respectively.

Next up was Kent on Saturday night and although 4-1 again, this was much more one sided, Adrian Meredith being the only Suffolk winner.

Sunday morning brought up the ‘derby’ match against Norfolk, and Suffolk ended their weekend with a very satisfactory 5-0 whitewash. Ali Livingstone, Peter Hewitt and Mike Muncaster all had 3-0 wins. Denis Groualle battled to a 3-2 win but even his match was outdone by Mark Cracknell, making his first appearance and coming from 2-0 down to win 12/14, 13/15, 12/10, 11/7, 12/10.

The full Suffolk squad, all from Ipswich Sports Club, was
Ali Livingstone, Kristian Day, Peter Hewitt, Denis Groualle, Andy Yorke, Mike Muncaster, Adrian Meredith, Mark Cracknell and Ron Bromley

Final Placings; 1. Surrey, 2. Kent, 3. Suffolk, 4. Norfolk
